How Training Works
Season Structure
Indoor (winter), Outdoor (spring/summer), and Fall (cross country) seasons
Group Training
Athletes train in small groups with specialized event coaches
Weekly Schedule
2-5 practices per week depending on program and commitment level
Competition
Regular meet opportunities at local, regional, provincial, and national levels

Training Groups
Specialized coaching for every event discipline in age-appropriate developmental programs
Junior: Sprints / Distance / Hurdles / Jumps
Senior: Sprints / Distance / Hurdles / Jumps / Throws*
Elite: All Disciplines
Sprints
60m-400m races focusing on speed, power, and technique
Distance/XC
800m+ and cross country for endurance athletes
Hurdles
Technical sprint events with barrier obstacles (including steeplechase)
Jumps
Long jump, triple jump, high jump, and pole vault*
Throws
Shot put, discus, javelin, and hammer (weight throw for indoor)
Combined
Multi-event competitions (heptathlon, pentathlon, decathlon)
Indoor vs Outdoor Training
Indoor Training
(Winter)

Running groups based at Canada Games Park Indoor Track (Distance athletes will continue to run outside as weather allows)

Indoor competitions are held in Toronto

Opportunities for high-performance athletes in Michigan, Ohio, New York, Massachusetts, Virginia, etc

Field event training available at ancillary facilities in Niagara (turf, school gyms, etc)

Strength training is an important component of the Winter season

This season is a stepping stone towards success in the Spring and Summer months
Outdoor Training (Spring/Summer/Fall)

Training is largely based at Canada Games Park Track & Field Complex

All track (sprint, mid-distance, distance, hurdles/steeplechase) and all field events (throws and jumps) are available

Competition opportunities for all ages and all abilities - local, regional ,provincial, national

Outdoor Season is competition heavy and focused on technical components
